Halloween Horror

A motley crew of fairies, princesses, batmen and Buzz Lightyears descended upon the Van Nuys Police Department in search of candy and devouring everything in sight. Attempting to regain control, a brave officer, empty baskets trembling in his hands, tried to reign in the sugar-crazed mob by asking, “Does anyone have a question?” A sassy hula girl shot her arm in the air and demanded of the uniformed officers, “Why are there so many bad guys?” Lost for words, the luckless officer was saved when the tall witch accompanying the horde called, “Time to move on to the fire house!”

Our Little Seismologist

Last night we had an earthquake, which woke Molly up.

"Daddy, the house was shaking."

"I know, honey, we had an earthquake."

"Did you and Mommy get under the table?"

Molly got back to sleep okay. This morning at breakfast she told me her theory for why earthquakes happen...

"There is lots of gas that people have to make farting and burping and other noises and all that gas goes under the ground and gets more and more and then that makes an earthquake!"

Hard to argue with that. From now on out I will think of earthquakes as more of an earth belch.

Our Little Picasso

I love this DoodlePro. It saves tons of paper and even more mess. But I nearly lost my mind running for the camera when I walked over to find Molly had drawn a self-portrait. I ran around screaming "Don't erase it...please don't erase it, just look at it for another minute...don't erase it, please!!!!" If only I'd known that it would be the first of 15 to be drawn and erased in fewer minutes. I'm amazed. Is that talent or what?!? Some of the pictures had ears (they look like arms coming out of the head), arms (also look like arms coming out of the head) and hair bows (little spikes coming out of the head). When I asked about hair Molly told me it's right there on top. Silly me. I have no artistic vision.

On the Campaign Trail

Molly and Alex spent the day working hard at the grand opening of the DP/SFV campain office. The schmoozed, they ate, they danced, they emailed, and they sang the praises of Obama. According to Molly, he's still making good choices.

The Sweet Taste of Freedom

We've been putting it off as long as possible, but now that Molly's up most nights to use the restroom and she's pushing 35 lbs, it's just too much for me to lift her out of that crib at 2am. Most of her friends have been in "big girl" beds for months now, if not longer. Molly's shown no interest, so we didn't push and just counted ourselves lucky. Two days ago I just couldn't take it, ran out and bought a safety rail, and asked Molls if she was ready for big girl bed and she started jumping up and down and saying, "Just like Eric and Noa and Ella!" So I got out the tools and Molly helped me transform her "convertible" crib. You can see how much she loves it, and my back is very happy, too!

Overheard at the Campaign Office

Yesterday we met Damian at the DPSFV campaign office to "help". Since the Republican Convention was on the big screen (gotta know what they are up to) Molly learned about John McCain. Call us and ask her who he is and she'll tell you (you must imagine this in a squeaky Molly voice) "John McCain needs a time out. He's not listening and not making good choices." Then ask her about Barack Obama and her face lights up, "He doesn't need a time out. He makes good choices. We're going to vote for him and he's going to be the president!"

A Day at the Beach

We headed back to Santa Monica Pier for another day of fun. Molly and I went with our usual outing buddies Debbie, Ella and Abby. The girls enjoyed frolicking in the sand, eating pizza and playing on the carousel and other rides. The girls especially loved having Debbie paint their faces to make them fancy.
